BUILDING IN PUBLICNivren OS is under active development on real hardware. Some parts work today. Some are experimental. Some will fail and be rebuilt.

Nivren OS

The AI operating system that actually runs on your computer.

Nivren is an AI operating system—not another AI website. It is being built as a genuine Linux-based environment with its own desktop, system services, model orchestration, memory, tools and interfaces.

01 What Nivren is A local-first AI operating system — not SaaS, not a productivity dashboard, not a browser-based OS, not a subscription chatbot layer. It is being built to live on the machine.
02 What makes it an operating system Desktop and interfaces, system services, model orchestration, memory, tools and the ability to coordinate the computer itself — beyond a single chat window.
03 Local-first architecture Designed to run on ordinary local hardware with inspectable state, human authority and privacy-aware boundaries. Cloud convenience is not the product identity.
04 One identity, many specialist models Different models and non-AI tools are treated as bounded contributors under one governed operating environment, rather than one unquestioned authority.
05 Nivren Chat Conversational interfaces are part of the system surface — not the whole product. Chat is a doorway into the operating environment, not a substitute for it.
06 Nivren Core Core runtime, services and coordination layers that hold identity, memory pathways, tools and system state together. Under active engineering; not claimed as finished.

Status honesty

Working / active development / roadmap

Current working capabilities. Local workshop interfaces, observability and telemetry surfaces, evidence and project-state records, bounded specialist tooling, and public engineering documentation of what has actually been demonstrated.

In active development. Deeper model orchestration, memory continuity, organ/runtime services, desktop cohesion and clearer human-governed control surfaces.

Roadmap. Broader integrated operating-environment behaviour, wider specialist coverage and future surfaces. Roadmap items are not claimed as present capability.

Nivren OS is built in public. Daily updates, feature suggestions, bug reports, engineering discussion and community showcase also live in the Campus Discord.

Evidence

Screenshots and build evidence

Public engineering evidence lives in the Nivren Engineering Journal. That record is deliberately conservative: it separates demonstrated behaviour from design intent, and does not present unfinished work as a finished product.

The captures below are real workshop screenshots supplied by Jake. No stock imagery or invented UI is used as Nivren evidence.

Nivren OS desktop shell on local Linux hardware during active development, with IDE and terminal windows open
Working In development Desktop shell overview — local hardware during active development.
Nivren observability surface showing local system activity including CPU, GPU, RAM and thermal readings
Working Observability surface — live local system pulse and workshop tools.
Nivren Drop Chat open as one interface within the wider Nivren OS desktop
Experimental Chat as doorway — one interface within the wider OS, not the whole product.
Nivren OS tiled windows with privacy veil engaged to obscure sensitive content
Experimental Privacy veil on a tiled shell — sensitive window contents obscured for capture.
Needed: sanitised evidence / project-state view.

Campus hierarchy

Relationship to YewForge, Fenryr and LYRA

YewForge Campus is the umbrella identity. Nivren OS is the flagship. Fenryr is the internal operational system used inside the workshop. LYRA is a public research/presence project. YewFix is diagnostics. Community Forge and The Inconvenience are public Campus surfaces. The public Discord community for build-in-public discussion is YewForge Campus. Commercial services sit under The Forge.

Honest history

Working name

Nivren was previously developed under the working name Koda. Historical articles, engineering paths and older screenshots may still say Koda where that was accurate at the time. Active public branding now uses Nivren / Nivren OS.
