NivKode workspace fix accepted, and release rules: 11 October update

NivKode remains in testing. In yesterday's update we said our fix for a workspace-switching problem in the desktop app had been sent back after an automated review. On 10 October an automated cross-review of the next attempt found one more case in a test: while the app was moving to another conversation, the previous conversation's approve and stop buttons stayed active, and if the move failed, its stop button could interrupt a run in the conversation being opened. The attempt after that ties every approve, decline and stop button to the conversation and run it was shown for, and NivKode now refuses a stop or a decision aimed at a different run or conversation. An automated cross-review accepted it that evening. The readability changes from yesterday's update are now included in a newer test build, and an automated cross-review accepted them too. Our rules for how releases will be built and checked were also accepted on automated cross-review: a release build stops unless its source matches exactly what is committed, and by default the installer refuses a package that is unsigned or older than the one already installed. The signing key has not been created yet, so nothing has been signed. None of these changes is in a release candidate yet. Human review, release approval and publication are still to come. Our target for the public release is 2 November 2026, and it may move if testing finds issues.

NivKode release test and desktop fixes: 10 October update

NivKode remains in testing. On 10 October we ran our full release test on a newer NivKode build in a deliberately hostile test setup: an unusually long temporary-folder path, with a stray settings file placed where a careless test might pick it up. It is meant to catch tests that only work on the machine they were written on. Earlier attempts exposed weaknesses in our test setup itself, which we fixed before running it again. We also changed the desktop app for readability: pages should reflow instead of scrolling sideways when you zoom in a long way or use a narrow window, and the app now includes the Atkinson Hyperlegible reading font it already offered, instead of quietly showing a system font. These changes are not yet in a release candidate, and so far they have been checked only by automated tests and an automated review. An automated cross-review of our desktop walkthrough also found that switching to another workspace could leave panels from the previous workspace on screen. We made a fix the same day; a second automated review found it incomplete, so that work continues. Human review, release approval and publication are still to come. Our target for the public release is 2 November 2026, and it may move if testing finds issues.

NivKode re-tested, next release candidate chosen: 9 October update

NivKode remains in testing. On 9 October a newer build was re-tested in full, exactly as it would be reviewed, and an automated cross-review accepted it as our next release candidate; human review, release approval and publication are still to come. We develop NivKode in a recorded workshop: AI workers take tasks, every job, review and hand-off is recorded, and merging to the live product or publishing a release still needs a human decision. We also continue to measure open models on our own hardware, and will publish figures only alongside their evidence. Our target for the public release is 2 November 2026, and it may move if testing finds issues.

Correction

Corrections to our 3 October update

Our 3 October update used unsupported product feature and test descriptions. Those claims were withdrawn in our 6 October correction. NivKode accessibility options remain under evaluation; no accessibility assessment is claimed.

Product update

NivKode 0.1.0 review candidate: 6 October update

NivKode 0.1.0 is a review candidate. Development continues. Human review, release approval and publication are pending. Our target for the public release is 2 November 2026, and it may move if testing finds issues. The NivKode source code is licensed AGPL-3.0-only but is not public yet.

Product and research update

NivKode 0.1.0 RC8 is a review candidate

NivKode 0.1.0 RC8 is a review candidate and remains in testing. Release approval and publication are pending. No platform-specific test results are reported here. The launch target remains 2 November 2026 and may move if testing finds issues. We also corrected our own research records: some ratings we'd labelled as human were made by an AI model. Those results stay inconclusive, and we've tightened our rules so it can't happen again. Honest results matter more than good-looking ones.

Superseded — corrected on 6 and 7 October

NivKode 0.1.0 RC6 is ready for testing

The product feature and test descriptions in this entry were withdrawn because they were not supported by public evidence. Some ratings in our research records were labelled as human but were made by an AI model; those results remain inconclusive.
